What is our Protection package?
A single "anti-virus" software will NOT protect you from all the different types of attackers that exist today. Because of this, the Wizard Protection package we install on every computer we service includes several different software applications.
First there is an anti-virus software that provides "real-time" protection against most attacks. It will update itself automatically every day and is registered for one full year. It is also constantly monitoring the "behind the scenes" activity, such as websites you visit and programs that run in the background. You will notice a pop up warning if a website you attempt to access is a "known" problem or if something on the website is designed to "run" and harm your computer.
Then, we typically use two (2) different spyware and malware defenses. These two different software applications are designed to "immunize" your computer from known and unknown attackers. Both software products may also interrupt some software installations and require that you "allow" or "deny" such changes. Be careful what you "allow".
Our theory is that if YOU are installing software, i.e., updates to existing products like Java, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader (for PDF files), Microsoft Windows Updates, or updates from your computer or printer manufacturer, and you get a "warning" then it is probably something you should allow. BUT... If you are simply "surfing the web" or opening an attachment from your email, then you should be very wary and make sure that you know what is attempting to install itself. Deny anything you are not 100% sure is safe. When in doubt - DENY! If it is something required for your computer to operate properly it will probably "ask" you again. You can even "Google" the suspected filename in an additional internet browser window and see what comes back in the search. You are probably not the only one to ever have seen that particular issue, so investigate or write it down and check it out when you have time.
We also provide a software application to delete your temporary internet files (browser history, cookies, and temporarily stored internet images). It also removes any Windows temporary files. This would include such items as any software installation "leftovers" as well as temporary files created when you open a document or upload or download images and other files from a camera or maybe a chat session. This product is called, simply enough, Clean Up!
There are several other applications we include as spyware removal tools. These programs should be updated and run periodically (maybe weekly or monthly) depending on your internet and general computer usage. Each of them include a fairly self-explanatory user interface and helpful user guides that can be explored for a better understanding of what they do and how to use them properly.
The Wizard Protection package includes a "folder" displayed on the Windows Desktop. This folder, titled "Maintaining Your PC" includes shortcuts to all the software we install on your computer. Please do not delete this folder as it can provide quick access to the programs and can be useful should you need to call us and ask for assistance. We can assist you in proper maintenance procedures over the phone, if we have time when you call, or you can schedule a call back.
While there are estimated to be about 30,000 new virus / malware issues created everyday, we do our best to protect your from known and emerging threats. Essentially, you have the best and most respected products available for your protection. But.as we always say... We can protect you from alot of things, but we can't protect you from yourself.
As always, please feel free to call on our expertise with any questions you might have for any computer issues. Though it is not our original "slogan", we like to think that "If you've got questions, we've got answers!"
Thank you for allowing us to serve your computer needs.
Sincerely,
the entire Computer Wizard staff
